about us

Camping, Fishing, Hiking, Bike Riding, Rock Hounding and just plain relaxing are among many activities to be enjoyed during warmer months of the year in Rio Costilla Park. Between May and September is ideal for experiencing Rio Costilla Park in it's splendor. Temperatures are mild, wild flowers are in bloom and wildlife is most active. Deer and Elk inhabit Rio Costilla Park in vast numbers. Visitors may see smaller game such as: Turkey, Ruffed Grouse or Golden Eagles. One may be fortunate enough to see Bear or Cougar and Big Horn Sheep frolicking in the sunlight.

Camping & Fishing
Rio Costilla Park consists of 10,000 acres and is the ideal location whether you are planning a get-a-way for two people or a family vacation. Weather conditions permitting, the park opens May 1st and runs through Labor Day weekend in September each year. Latir lakes open mid-June pending the spawning of the native trout. We recommend you confirm dates as days of operation are subject to weather and drought conditions.

Hunting
RCCLA Ranch is 80,000 acres of vast wilderness, mountain ranges, streams and lakes. Located in Game Management Unit 55 Region D, it is part of a trio of jewels, Vermejo Park and Valle Vidal, and RCCLA Ranch. It is a unique hunter's paradise and is easily accessible. Vast herds of Rock Mountain Elk and Mule Deer are nestled within our mountains. Black Bear, Mountain Lions and Wild Turkey's are also plentiful.
