The Taos Pueblo Blue Lake Commemoration Celebration Committee, in north central New Mexico, is slated to host a benefit dinner to raise funds for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the return of its sacred Blue Lake. 

 

The Blue Lake Commemoration Celebration Committee and the Red Willow Education Center sponsored a history project contest for Taos Pueblo students in grades K-12.  Winners for this project will be announced and winning projects will be displayed during this gala.  In addition, "A Night Out With Taos Pueblo", will include a silent auction and the winners for the fundraiser raffle will be announced.  A major importance for the 40th Anniversary celebration is to share celebrating the history of the Return of Blue Lake.

 

The 40th Anniversary Celebration of the return of its sacred Blue Lake remembers and celebrates one of the most significant occasions in the history of Taos Pueblo and American Indian People; the Pueblo’s successful 64-year struggle with the U.S. Government to reclaim religious freedom and protection of sacred land.  Taos Pueblo will commerate the history, the struggle, and the victory of Blue Lake on September 17th and 18th, 2010.  The theme for this momentous celebration has been appropriately titled "Blue Lake-A Symbol of Cultural Stength and Determination" The celebration will commence Friday, September 17th with an opening mass at St. Jerome Church at Taos Pueblo and an evening reception at the Kachina Lodge-Cabaret Room.  The highlight events will take place on Saturday, September 18th with activities scheduled throughout the day.  Events will take place in the Taos Pueblo’s historic village.
